The operation
This procedure will involve you being mildly sedated, the balloon is then placed in your stomach via your mouth during a simple 20-30 minute endoscopic procedure. The soft silicone balloon is then filled with saline through a self-sealing valve where it remains for a maximum of 6 or 12 months. For the first week you will follow a liquid diet with instructions to drink plenty of fluids, you will start eating solid foods again with advice from our specialist dietitian. It is removed either six or twelve months later with the same procedure.
